Terms and Conditions

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen 18 years of age or older; please bring photo Identification with you. Authorized IDs are driver’s license, passport, or government-issued photo identification card.

2. Clothing must be appropriate for an industrial environment. Closed-toe shoes are MANDATORY. No open-toe sandals or flip flops or high-heel shoes are permitted. Short-sleeve shirts, knee-length shorts, or capris are acceptable, but skirts and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Long pants and comfortable shoes are encouraged and highly recommended.

3. The tour involves minimal walking, just a short distance from the bus to the central control building.

4. You must remain with the tour escort at all times and follow their direction in regard to:

• Wearing an ESCORT REQUIRED tag and/or temporary badge on upper torso.
• Remaining within visual or verbal contact of the escort.
• Limiting exposure to unnecessary environmental, safety, and/or health risks.
• Response to safety alarms and announcements.

5. Prohibited items include:

• Cell phones, two-way pagers, transmitting radios, devices with a transmitting capability, cameras, and devices capable of capturing or recording images.
• Firearms (even though you may have a concealed carry permit), ammunition, weapons, and explosives;
• Controlled substances, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia and intoxicants;
• Computers, laptops, palm-pilots, memory capable calculators, electronic notebooks, other ADT type devices;

6. You acknowledge that your participation is voluntary and authorize the use of photographs taken during the tour and your name to be used in the print, online and video-based media materials, as well as other publications.

7. Visitors who are, or think they are, pregnant should notify your tour escort. The Paducah Site radiation dose limit is 100 millirem each year for visitors. This is less than the average annual dose that the general public receives from natural background sources and man-made sources of radiation. Natural background sources include cosmic rays, terrestrial sources (including radon) and sources within the human body. Man-made sources include medical x-rays, nuclear medicine and consumer products. The public receives an average of 620 millirem each year from these sources.

• Since radiation cannot be detected with the human senses, a Personal Nuclear Accident Dosimeter (commonly referred to as a PNAD) will be provided and must be worn at all times, in the event of an accidental exposure.

8. The PGDP is a secure government facility. For safety and security, visitors are subject to random searches.

9. Tours are subject to immediate cancellation any time security conditions for the plant change, or in the event of other security or safety concerns. The Department of Energy also reserves the right to reschedule or cancel a tour at any time due to unanticipated circumstances. In the unlikely event of an emergency or other unforeseeable situation, the tour bus may be required to remain on the plant for longer than scheduled, or the tour may be immediately terminated. Tour participants should be prepared for delays, or an earlier than normal return time.
