Protective Force Training Instructor

Position Overview

The Protective Force (PF) Training Instructor has overall responsibility for conducting required training in accordance with Department of Energy (DOE) policy and applicable Code of Federal  Regulations (CFR).  The PF Training Instructor may also be assigned duties as a PF Shift Supervisor.  The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support the PF Training Manager and/or Security Operations Manager in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Executes all aspects of applicable PF training in accordance with established DOE Orders, CFR, and current Lesson Plans

Obtain and maintain certification as a DOE Firearms Instructor, Intermediate Force Instructor, Armorer, and additional certifications as required.

Writes and/or reviews training program support documents

Develops Lesson Plans and conducts training (to include training for active shooter response)

May perform as a field supervisor of Security Police Officers (SPOs)

Performs work safely, in accordance with established policies and ensures that those being supervised comply with all establish safety policies

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS degree in a related field with a minimum of 4 years of DOE security experience or a combination of education and a minimum of 8 years of DOE security experience

Strong writing (Microsoft Office), interpersonal, multi-tasking, and communication skills.

Required to meet and maintain all SPO 1 standards outlined in 10 CFR 1046 (e.g., medical, physical, and weapons qualifications)

Firearms instructor certified

May be required to work extended hours in adverse conditions

May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time and may be required to conduct extended foot patrols and/or climb ladders or a significant amount of stairs

Required to operate patrol vehicles and other assigned equipment as necessary

Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q security clearance

Additional Preferred Skills/Certifications

Background in DOE PF operations

Security Police Officer III certification

Military Background with emphasis on weapons and training

Background in DOE Instructional Systems Design

Background in DOE Performance Testing

Background in Security Leadership

Experience in Emergency Operations and/or Incident Command

Basic Security Police Officer Training (BSPOT) certification

DOE Basic Instructor Training certification

DOE Firearms Instructor Certification

DOE Immediate Force Instructor Certification

Glock and M4 Armorer Certification
